Beer Stories

Golden CALF -This beer name comes from the Ten Commandment story in the bible.  In that story, Dathan rebelled, against God, and builds a golden calf.  God was not happy with this and Dathan and his family was swallowed by the earth.  Ironically I have had 1 bottle from the first two batches that split in half.
The C.A.L.F. in this beer name represents the hops used in the beer: Cascade, Amarillo, Liberty, and Fuggle.

Pale Horse - This beer was designed to be similar to a traditional style pale ale.  While watching old black and white western movie, Dathan heard "Pale Horse".  He thought to himself that is a great beer name.  The name seemed fitting since many cities have Native American names in the PNW.

Summer Haze - This beer designed for the wildfires that raged in the Columbia Gorge during the summer of 2017.  This beer has an orange haze to the color reflecting the sky from 2017.

Warrior - This beer was created to honor all those that server our city, state, and nation.  This beer is brewed with Warrior and Tomahawk hops and dry hopped with Warrior, Mosaic and Chinook hop.

Je Ne Sais Quoi - This beer was named while sitting at Mazama brewing.  Dathan was explaining the style of beers to his brother in law.  He said the beer has a certain "je ne sais quoi".  His brother in law asked what the translation meant.  He googled it and next to the definition was (IPA). (IPA) which stands for International Phonetic Alphabet.  It was at that point that the beer was named.

The Black Falcon - Stout - This beer derives its name from a friend of La Mere Brewing.  Our friend Gabe has a guitar named "The Black Falcon". We liked the name and thought that it was also a fantastic beer name.

Reveille - We named this beer Reveille for two reasons. First, because we used Black Rifles Coffee in our beer and second because Dathan La Mere is a military veteran.  Reveille is played each morning on US Military posts.

The Circus - This beer is named from a Vancouver Tea companies tea named “The Circus”. We now created our own version of that tea to dry hop this beer. A Belgian specialty ale that is fermented on raspberries and dry hopped with flowers; rose hips, hibiscus, heather, chamomile.

El Diablo Martillo (The Devils Hammer)- This beer is named to a similar naming convention as other Belgian Triples.  We liked the Devils Hammer because it is a light, citrusy and drinkable beer that is 9% ABV.  Dathan asked his wife, Carla, to say Devils Hammer in Spanish.  "El Diablo Martillo", she said.  It sounded perfect.  That is how this beer was named.

4 Horsemen - This beer was named like other Belgian style quadruples.  After I first drank this beer I knew that it needed a bold name.  That evening this beer was my last of the night as I felt the affects of 11% ABV.  I knew at that moment this beer was the 4 Horsemen.

Wild Lavender - I was in Instagram and noticed my friend Jonathans Instagram name.  I then designed this lavender beer after his name.

Brown Recluse – This beer was named from the initial brew of this beer when a spider repelled into the boiling wort.  My brother Aaron and I looked at each other, both of us were amazed at what we had just seen.  After a short period, this beer was named the Brown recluse.

Sawyers Red – This bee is named for my friend, Jeff.  Jeff my brother and I went to brewing classes, breweries, and taprooms.  Jeff loves Red ales and so this beer was created.

Spiced Cranberry - Berliner Weisse - 3 ABV 6 IBU

This beer is a kettle sour. A homemade spiced cranberry compote is added to secondary.   The homemade compote is created with Cranberries, Fresh Orange juice, Orange zest, and spices.

Goslar Gose - This beer was named while studying beer.  Dathan was reading a book about Belgian beers.  It seemed fitting to name the beer for the city from where this beer style originated.  Goslar is a historic town in Lower SaxonyGermany.
